At least 78 dead in military plane crash in Indonesia

Per BBC, at least 78 people were killed after a Hercules military plane crashed in Geplak on the island of Java. The plane took off from Jakarta and was about four kilometers away from its expected landing site.

This was the second incident involving an Indonesian military plane in the last month. A Fokker 27 crashed in western Java in April, killing all 24 aboard, per BBC.

Though the cause of Wednesday’s crash was not immediately known, Indonesian tweets suggested the plane’s age played a role, citing local media reports as well as general knowledge.
