Earthquake rattles Mexico City

Per the United States Geologogical Service (USGS), a 5.7 earthquake shook Puebla, Mexico, 140 kilometres (85 miles) southeast of Mexico City, though it was felt particularly strongly in the nation’s capital per numerous tweets.

Most Twitterers in Mexico City reported the quake with the Spanish word “temblor,” with hundreds of temblor tweets appearing within minutes.

The first tweet on the quake was from @winiberto of Puebla. Shortly after his tweet came the first tweet from Mexico City from @olivcris.

In the aftermath of the quake, Twitterers in Mexico City reported experiencing telephone jams and isolated power issues. Some also said they heard sirens and car alarms, though there was no apparent serious damage.
