Shell hands out $15.5 million for executed Nigerian activists

Per BBC, Royal Dutch Shell has agreed to pay $15.5 million ($9.7 million pounds) to settle with families of executed Nigerian environmental activists a week before the case was scheduled to go to court. The oil giant continues to deny any wrongdoing and said the settlement was part of the “process of reconciliation”

The news sent Twitterers into action, with Nigerians tweeting links to the story and human rights activists analyzing the result. Opinions were varied.
