Excitement builds in Iran leading up to election

Per Voice of America, “an unexpected wave of popular enthusiasm” is sweeping through the city of Tehran leading up to Iran’s presidential election on Friday, a movement so strong that it is even catching analysts off guard.

While ultimate power will remain with Iran’s revolutionary leader Ayatollah Khomeini regardless of the result, strong feelings have emerged both for and against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in his re-election bid. Support for his biggest challenger, reformist candidate Mir Hussein Mousavi, also appears to be growing, VOA reports.
