Mekong River Dolphin on the verge of extinction

Per BBCWorld Wildlife Fund announced that pollution has pushed the Irrawaddy dolphin living in the Mekong River to the brink of extinction. The Mekong River flows from China, through Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. Toxic levels of pesticides such as DDT, high levels of mercury and other pollutants have been found in dead dolphin calves since 2003, says the BBC. Researchers from WWF believe that high levels of pollution will also be harmful to the human population that lives around the river and shares the same water and fish as the dolphin.
