Per Earthtimes, Abu Dhabi – United Arab Emirates’ capital city – has won the bid to house the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) headquarters.

Masdar City – the world’s first carbon-neutral, zero-waste city powered entirely by renewable energy – is the selected location for IRENA’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi. Major international destinations, like Germany, Austria and Denmark, were candidate nations bidding for IRENA, according to the Examiner.com.

The news calls for major celebrations amongst the Middle Eastern Twitterverse, as it marks the first time an international organization has a headquarters based in the Middle East.
