Ahmadinejad gives speech to people of Iran

Per CNN, Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addressed his country and referred to the most recent, controversial election as “the most free election anywhere in the world.”

Ahmadinejad’s speech answers the call of his opponents to end the “security atmosphere” in Iran and to stop useless arrests of protesters.

The president acknowledged criticism of government and said it was “the key to success of a nation.” He says he plans to take these criticisms moving forward to “prepare for this new period,” according to the article.

Tweets around the world reflect disappointment in Ahmadinejad’s speech. Twitterers see blatant contradictions between the actual events of the election and what he stated today.
