An attempt on the life of Mir Hossein Mousavi has been foiled in Iran, according to a report by PRESS TV Sunday night. A terrorist organization that trained in Iraq was supposedly behind the plot and sought to pin the incident on the Iranian government to cause chaos.

Mousavi was the main opposition candidate of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in June’s disputed Iranian presidential election. PRESS TV reports that the terrorist group Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization also planned to assassinate another reform candidate, Mehdi Karroubi.

The Twitterverse shared its views on the implications of such an event and voiced skepticism about who was behind the plot.
