U.S. Senate says no to F-22, siding with Obama

The Senate has voted against funding of the United States’ premier fighter jet program, 58-40, falling in line with the views of President Barack Obama and Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, reports the Washington Post.

Whether or not to fund the F-22 Raptor, a special aircraft geared toward aerial combat which critics say is not necessary and too expensive, has led to a considerable debate recently and Obama even threatened to veto the program if the Senate voted for it, MSNBC reports.

Twitter has been quite active with F-22 tweets, which helped the term trend to the second most discussed topic on the network.

Most Americans in the Twitterverse were happy with the decision, and many shared their own take on this news:

In difficult times things that aren't really useful should be scrapped; but if F22 gets scrapped, why is Obama wasting billions on unnecessary projects all over the nation?

Thanks for the comment, witschey. Not sure, but agree with you that people have no choice but to scale back during difficult times.
