Switzerland celebrates Swiss National Day

Swiss National Day has Twitterers in Switzerland in a great mood, tweeting about what they’re up to and how they’re commemorating the August 1 holiday.

The old Swiss confederation was formed on Aug. 1, 1291 and this traditionally has been celebrated as Switzerland’s independence day. Today’s celebration marks 718 years since the historic occasion.

Fireworks, beer, and other activities were cited by Swiss Twitter users who took part in today’s festivities:
