Baja earthquakes shake San Diego, Los Angeles

A 6.9-magnitude earthquake this morning originating in Baja, California/Mexico in the Gulf of California region, was felt strongly in San Diego and moderately in Los Angeles, according to Twitter reports.

The quake struck at 10:59 a.m. local time, moments after another earthquake – a 5.8 magnitude at 10:55 a.m.

A third earthquake at 11:33 a.m., at 5.0, and fourth earthquake at 11:40 a.m., at 6.0, were also reported by USGS.

Many tweets from San Diego shared the experience of the 6.9 earthquake from high-rise buildings:

    My little 4 lb. Chihuahua seemed very nervous and was barking by about 11 am this AM. After the 7.2 quake in Baja about 3:34 , he seemed to feel better. I called him and told him that it was o.k. and he then curled up on my bed and went to sleep. I quess he just wanted me to know. My moblehome and hospital bed shook as much as it ever has. No damage though people called to check on me.
