In its first major outage of 2009, Twitter has been down for the last hour.

Twitter has posted on its status blog that it’s been the victim of a denial-of-service attack. Mashable reports that it brings back memories of major outages in 2007 and 2008.
But the world continues to tweet through SMS text messaging, as per searches on search.twitter.com.

ffys (Tokyo, Japan): is twitter down?

giloi (London, U.K.): Lol at how twitter is down but texts still work. Sms FTW!

mikelaurie (London, U.K.): OMG twitter is down! So how am I tweeting this?

jvdalton (Hoboken, N.J.): Twitter down? Worker productivity Up?

Each of the above messages was sent by text.
