Featured TwitPic: Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul, Turkey

This garden surrounds the Dolmabahçe palace built by Sultan Abdul Majeed, which after 13 years in construction was completed in 1856. It has a covered area of 15,000 sq. metres and has 285 rooms, 44 halls, 68 toilets & 6 hamams.

In 1924, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk by law transferred the ownership to the government and used it as a Presidential Palace; he passed away in 1938.

The Ceremonial Hall (Muayede Salonu) is still used for special events, like the last NATO Meeting, as well as President Obama’s meeting with the Turkish president.

No Photography is allowed inside the Palace.
