The United Arab Emirates has seized a cargo vessel illegally carrying North Korean weapons on the way to Iran, according to the National.

In response, UN Security Council’s sanctions committee has expressed gratitude to the UAE Government by thanking officials in Abu Dhabi and has requested an explanation from Iran.

“The committee has received information regarding an alleged violation of the sanctions that have been put on North Korea and this information is being considered and processed by the committee at this moment,” (Turkish diplomat, the National).

The cargo ship was noted as carrying rocket-propelled grenades and various other weapons, which were marked as ‘machine parts’ to mislead authorities and mask the actual contents.
