U.S. nixes Honduras aid in response to coup

The United States pressured Honduras to reinstate its former President Manuel Zelaya on Thursday by halting all non-humanitarian aid to the country, according to CNN.

Zelaya was ousted in a coup on June 28, leading to a period of chaos in the nation, where divisions are still prevalent.

The news quickly circulated amongst Twitter users in Honduras capital Tegucigalpa, angering some. Many continue to tweet about the crisis with the hashtag #crisishn:

great, now the hundurans are gonna come all to the USA to take over and try to make the USA a little Honduras, this will never end, and they will cont. to expect us to learn Spanish instead of them learning English. A stop must be put to this...Terrible.
  • We must support the countries that fight leftist regimes! Zelaya was trying to impose a government following Cavez's footsteps. Honduras is sending a message and we must hear it! If they have free elections then accepting the result is a graceful way out of this situation. Twenty years ago the OAS left my country (Panama) alone with Noriega so we don't expect anything different on the Honduras issue but we do hope the USA - land of the free and home of the brave- to do the right thing...
