New threats from terrorist organization al-Qaeda have prompted Germany to raise its terror alert level, just prior to its federal elections on Sept. 27, CNN reports. The group specifically said it will attack if German troops are not withdrawn from Afghanistan and change in power doesn’t occur.

Security will be heightened for Election Day and the following two weeks, which an al-Qaeda video specifically cited as the time frame for a possible attack, adds Spiegel Online.
