Defense testimony casts doubt on DNA evidence in Amanda Knox trial

After a two-month recess, the murder trial of accused American student, Amanda Knox, resumed in Perugia, Italy, last week.

Startling new forensic testimony has begun to raise doubts about several of the prosecutions’ key pieces of evidence linking Knox and her ex-boyfriend, Raffaelo Sollecito, to the 2007 sexual assault and murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher, according to FOX News.

The defense is challenging the prosecutions’ claims that a kitchen knife found at Sollecito’s apartment containing Kercher’s DNA on the blade and Knox’s DNA on the handle is the murder weapon, reports SeattlePI.com. A forensic expert testified that the knife was not consistent with the wounds on the victim’s neck. The amount of DNA on the handle has also been said to be too “low” to specifically link Knox to the murder.

Twitter users expressed their frustration over the handling of the trial.

ActiveNick (Scottsdale, AZ) Based on the messy & corrupted investigation for the Amanda Knox trial, I can say that “CSI: Italy” would be the lamest TV show, or a comedy

HorrorMask (London) Italian police show Amanda Knox the knife that probably wasn’t used to kill Mereditch Kercher. Fucking comedy trial.

Prosecutors allege that Knox, her former boyfriend Sollecito and Guede attacked Kercher during a group sex game which turned violent. Kercher was found with her throat cut, in her bedroom on Nov. 2, 2007.

Amanda may have been a drug-infested tramp, but there is no evidence that I have seen that she is a murderer. One of the reasons many countries do not allow their military personnel to torture confessions out of prisoners is because such testimony is unreliable. The prisoner will tell his torturers whatever they want him/her to say just to get them to stop the abuse. As far as I can see, Amanda did that very thing when for 14 hours the police tormented her in order to get her to say that Patrick Lamumba was involved in the murder. Eventually she gave them what they wanted. Then the prosecution built a theory of a sex party gone wrong that resulted in the murder. Now it is coming out that Sollecito never met Rudi Guede who was convicted of the rape/murder of Meredith Kercher. And Amanda hardly knew the low-life Guede. Now the lead prosecutor is fighting for his career, and a conviction of the innocent Amanda, Prosecutor Mignini figures, should save him from ridicule and dismissal from his prosecutor's job.
