TwitPics: Rare dust storm strikes Eastern Australia

The states of Queensland and New South Wales are being engulfed by an unusual dust storm, consisting of high winds and an eerie orange hue to the skies from Brisbane to Sydney. Drought conditions across the region intensified the storm, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.

Twitter users in Australia have been posting incredible TwitPics depicting this abnormal event, using the hasthag #duststorm. Here’s a sample:

    It's just dust... dirt being kicked around by the wind... in part due to extensive droughts in Australia. Agreed on the Apocalypse comment.

  • No worries at all, it really was something wicked to see. I am still kicking myself for not getting up at 6am when it was a beautiful deep red. But I guess you win some, you lose some haha.
