Buried treasure unearthed in England

BBC News reports that a huge haul of Anglo-Saxon gold and silver has been discovered buried in a field in the English region of Staffordshire.

According to the Associated Press, an amateur treasure hunter made the find after searching a field with his metal detector in July. More than 1300 objects were dug up from the field, making it the largest ever such find in the UK. Experts say the treasure is from the ancient kingdom of Mercia, and dates to 675-725 AD.

ITN News has video of the excavations, and photos of some of the priceless objects recently discovered.

Twitter users are keen to get digging in their own gardens for buried treasure!
