Palau designates world’s first shark haven

Palau’s President Johnson Toriboing announced the designation of his country’s 230,000 square miles of ocean water a shark safe haven, according to National Geographic. His speech to the United Nations in New York City on Sept. 25 declared that no commercial fishing would be allowed in Palau’s France-sized territory, particularly the hunting of sharks.
