Google Wave preview to reach 100,000 lucky inboxes beginning today

According to Google’s Official Blog, starting Sept. 30, 100,000 invitations will be sent out to developers, select Google App users, and select users who signed up early, to preview the much-anticipated Google Wave.

To simply describe what Wave is, it’s an “online tool for real-time communication and collaboration.”  People will be able to talk and work live, share documents, pictures, edit messages while they’re happening, and much more – and don’t forget about all the other technologies added to Wave such as games, video chat, and trip planning…to say the least.

Twitter users are buzzing as the time gets closer to find out if they are lucky enough to receive a Wave invitation in their inbox, or lucky enough to know someone who will share one of the eight extra invites people in the initial 100,000 invited group receive to pass out.

A full release of Google Wave is expected during the first half of 2010, according to the team of developers. This announcement was made shortly after a recent dispute between Google and Microsoft involving Google’s Chrome Frame – a plug in for Internet explorer to make it run like Chrome, and coincidentally, able to properly run Wave.

TechCrunch called Wave, “one of the most ambitious projects we’ve ever seen… [which] has the potential to significantly alter the way online communication is carried out.” So even if you’re not one of the lucky ones to test ride the Wave, stay tuned and get excited for 2010!
