Start of October initiates bird migration season

It has technically been fall since Tues. Sept. 22, but October means definite bird migration season in North America. Bird watcher blog Duncraft.com describes how “when winter descends, birds have little trouble relocating to warmer climates and more plentiful food sources.”

For those birds that regularly migrate, people have started spotting them all over the place.

Twitterers keep reporting on the flocks:

Bird watching is not always fun for everyone:

auto_de_fe (Richmond, Virginia) Just watched an hour and a half of bird migration footage. I have never been so bored in my life.

If you aren’t intrigued by watching a couple of birds fly over your house, keep an eye out for a massive flock like the one seen here in this recording from Traverse City, Michigan:
