Myanmar court denies Suu Kyi detention appeal

According to Reuters and BBC News, a Myanmar court denied an appeal for freedom by Aung San Suu Kyi on Friday, a verdict likely to extent the Nobel laureate’s house arrest until after next year’s elections.

BBC News reports, Suu Kyi was found guilty in August for violating terms of her house arrest, and sentenced to 18 more months of house arrest, after a US man swam to her lakeside home.

Suu Kyi has already spent 14 of the last 20 years in some sort of detention, reports Reuters.
