Google adds “Quick View” link to search to avoid PDFs

According to Google’s Official Blog, a new “Quick View” link has been added to search results. This option allows users to view PDF files in the browser rather than opening the document in a separate PDF viewer such as Adobe Reader, which usually causes CPU performance to slow down.

Google already had a “View as HTML” link option for search results, but this loses most of the original PDF formatting such as graphics, fonts and tables.

Twitter users comment happily on yet another Google improvement.

Google says they already have more than half of all PDF files in the Quick View Index. Until all PDF’s are converted, the View as HTML option will still be available to avoid additional downloads.
