American researchers receive Nobel Prize in Economics

Oliver Williamson and Elinor Ostrom won the Nobel Prize in Economics for 2009 on Monday, as reported in the New York Times.

The work of Williamson and Ostrom takes a more personal approach to economics, focusing less on theories and more on how individuals interact in “business-like” settings.

Ostrom became the first woman to win the award in economics since its inception in 1968.
