Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe supports Democratic healthcare bill

Republican Senator Olympia Snowe said she will vote for a Democratic health care bill being debated by the Senate Finance Committee today.  Breaking from her party, Snowe is the first Republican to back healthcare reform.

A YouTube video shows Snowe discussing why she is in support of the bill.

According to the Associated Press Snowe’s support could mean “the 60th vote required to overcome Republican objections to the bill.”  This would also mean that the final version of the bill would be called bi-partisan.

This is not the first time Snowe has has broken with the Republican Party.

Hundreds of Twitter users are upset with Snowe’s vote.
