iDon’t: Verizon smartphone “DroidDoes” ads bash iPhone
The No. 1 U.S. carrier Verizon Wireless has come out with online and video ads announcing an Oct. 30 release date for the new Android 2.0 powered Motorola Droid phone. The ads target the iPhone by saying everything that “iDon’t” the “DroidDoes”.
According to PCMAG, some of the Droid features announced on Verizon’s Web site include 5-megapixel camera, a real QWERTY slideout keyboard, and open development. Some are calling Google’s 2.0 Android Smartphone OS, the “iPhone killer“, while others believe Apple’s iPhone will remain at the top.
Most Twitter users are buzzing about the new Droid ad campaign with great anticipation and agree with TechCrunch when they say that the “Droid is the real deal.”
Amanda_____ (São Paulo, Brazil) Idon’t… All the things your phone doesn’t do, Droid Does. Waiting ansiously! http://bit.ly/RXlQJ DamianPBNJ (Greater Boston, Mass.) Love the new Droid ads that flip off Apple “iDon’t …” but notice the small print at the bottom: George Lucas copyrighted the word “droid”! keeganwatkins (ATX) the new “iDon’t” campaign from Verizon/Google is brilliant. thunderakatLTL (KCMO) iPod has a run for its money I hear “DROID” is a new better mp3 player. Hmmmmm check it out. richdevans (Washington, D.C.) @legaldidds but for real, Droid will be the best phone on the market by far. esposimi (Undisclosed) I favorited a YouTube video — iDon’t http://bit.ly/eBqFV chrisz13 (Undisclosed) The new Motorola Droid seems like it might be an iphone killer, but it looks really crapy though. The software looks nice though
Other Twitter users don’t understand the ad’s hype and are proudly in defense of their iPhones.
ambroselittle (Undisclosed) iDon’t care about your list of features. iDon’t feel dissatisfied with my iPhone. iDon’t want to see your silly commercials. jrahal (Undisclosed) iDon’t care for the new “Droid” commercial luisbaquerizo (Undisclosed) Droid lacks Apple’s secret weapon: iTunes http://bit.ly/1mUucO tolson (Undisclosed) iDon’t understand how open development and “widgets” make my life better. droid needs to spend more on messaging and less on airtime. joshholat (Wisconsin) After my mom and her boyfriend saw the iDon’t commercial they both asked, “What the hell is it?” Marketing fail if you ask me.
