Protesters gather in Freedom Plaza to rally against gay marriage

Protesters joined together at Freedom Place in Washington D.C. on Sunday to voice their opposition to gay marriage.

150 people were present to demonstrate their opinions on whether or not Washington D.C. should. legalize gay marriage. Many of the people were bused in earlier from various churches from the area. The mayor and council men’s office is across the street from Freedom Plaza and these protesters hoped that they could be heard, especially in light of the issue being addressed by the committee Monday.

The Washington Post reports that the protesters wanted their voices to be taken seriously. Many of them were heard chanting, “Let the people vote!”.

People from the event took to their Twitter:

It was troubling to see so many Black Americans protesting against something that has little to no effect over our community. We have the most disgraceful, most violent, most degenerate neighbor hoods in the country, and we are protesting against gay marriage? You have to be f*@%^!$ kidding me. What about teen pregnancy (a serious problem), gun/gang violence, black men whom are on the "down low" bringing death and disease back to our communities? We need to take care of our own problems first instead of trying to repair what we "think" is wrong elsewhere. **Note: Just because you claim to be Christian doesn't mean the next man or woman has to abide be that law/religion. This is American where we have the right to believe in what we choose. That being said, let these people be with whom they choose; worry about your own.
