President Hamid Karzai has been declared president of Afghanistan  after election runoff was cancelled by officials, according to the BBC.

Karzai’s only opponent, former Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah, dropped out of the race on Sunday out of concerns that the votes would not be fair or free.

The United States and its allies congratulated President Hamid Karzai on winning a second term Monday, Fox News reports.
