Jackman Flexes Box Office Muscle as “Wolverine”

Marking the arrival of the summer movie season, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” delivered big numbers at the box office this weekend, grossing an estimated $87 million.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Hugh Jackman’s much anticipated “Wolverine” overcame critics’ mixed reviews to claim the top spot. But despite its strong showing, the film fell short of 2006’s “X-Men: The Last Stand,” which brought in over $100 million in its opening weekend.

Matthew McConaughey’s romantic comedy, “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past,” followed a distant second with an estimated $15.3 million. Beyonce’s thriller movie “Obsessed” held its own for the second weekend in a row, raking in an estimated $12 million.

As usual, mixed reviews dominated the Twitterverse:
