ABC Moves “Ugly Betty” to Fridays

The alphabet network announced today that “Ugly Betty” fans will have to wait until Fridays next fall to get their fix of Betty and her friends.

“I love the show [and] America [Ferrera] is one of our biggest stars,” Stephen McPherson, the ABC president, said according to Entertainment Weekly. “[But] you look at [Betty's declining ratings on] Thursday night…You have to make some bold moves sometimes. To me, I’d love to see [Betty] have a great run on Friday night the way Ghost Whisperer has [for CBS].”

Many TV viewers believe Fridays are a wasteland for shows, but McPherson said this is not Betty’s last shot at success.

Several tweeps are disappointed by the change:

Betty still fared much better than other ABC shows.  In releasing their fall 2009 TV lineup, ABC also confirmed “Cupid,” “The Unusuals,” “According to Jim,” “Samantha Who?” and “In the Motherhood” have all been canceled.
