Wal-Mart is refusing to stock Green Day’s latest CD, “21st Century Breakdown,” after the band decided not to edit the album for language and content as the store requested, according to the Associated Press.

Wal-Mart said it is their long-standing policy to offer their customers “clean” version of CDs from s0-called raunchy artists. But frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said the band’s CD didn’t need to be edited.

According the the article, the follow-up to Green Day’s “American Idiot” album contains adult content as well as a number of curse wods. Luckily for the band, even without Wal-mart, the album is currently at the top of the album charts this week and sold 215,000 since it’s Friday release.

Armstrong points out, however, that while Green Day can survive not having their album sold in such a huge store not every band can.

“If you think about bands that are struggling or smaller than Green Day … to think that to get your record out in places like that, but they won’t carry it because of the content and you have to censor yourself,” he told Associated Press. “I mean, what does that say to a young kid who’s trying to speak his mind making a record for the first time? It’s like a game that you have to play. You have to refuse to play it.”
