Jay Bennett, a former member of the alternative rock band Wilco, died today, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.  He was 45.

According to the article, a family spokesman announced that Bennett died in his sleep and an autopsy will be conducted.

Though he remains best-known for the seven years he played with Wilco, Bennett split from the band in 2001 before pursuing a solo career.
