“Buffy” Movie Relaunch Planned

According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, Vertigo Entertainment will be involved in reviving the 1992 movie, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” The movie will be a remake, and original screenwriter Joss Whedon isn’t–yet–on board, though the original director is involved.

Vertigo and the directors are reportedly trying to create an original idea off the basic premise of Buffy–a young woman who leads a secret life killing vampires–but this time they are looking to “make a darker, more event-sized movie, that would, of course, have franchise-potential.”

The original film, starring Kristy Swanson and Luke Perry, spawned the hit television series starring Sarah Michelle Geller.  None of the series’ characters, however, are expected to be in the film.

According to the article, Whedon hasn’t been approached yet to participate in the re-development.
