In the box office battle of family-friendly versus not-suitable-for-kids, it was the latter that won out this past weekend.

Despite early reports that Disney/Pixar’s “Up” rose to the top of the box office for the second weeked in a row, Entertainment Weekly is now reporting  that a strong Sunday showing helped comedy “The Hangover” inch ahead.

Final estimates have “The Hangover” grossing an estimated $44.98 million to the animate powerhouse’s $44.14 million.  The other big opening this week, Will Ferrell’s “Land of the Lost,” brought in a disappointing $19.5 million.
