Madonna Wins Malawi Adoption Appeal

Madonna has legally won the right to adopt a girl from Malawi, PEOPLE.com reports.

In a statement released through her spokesperson, Madonna said, “I am extremely grateful for the Supreme Court’s ruling on my application to adopt Mercy James. I am ecstatic…My family and I look forward to sharing our lives with her.”

According to PEOPLE, preparations are already underway to bring 3-year-old Chifundo “Mercy” James from Malawi, Africa to America by private jet.

Alan Chinula, Madonna’s Malawi lawyer, told PEOPLE that the 50-year-old singer had been awake all night waiting for the courtroom decision.

Although Madonna is not expected to fly out to Africa any time soon, it is believed that Mercy may be moved temporarily to Kumbali lodge, where Madonna stays when she is in Malawi. Mercy will join Madonna’s other children: Lourdes, Rocco and fellow adoptee, David.
