Emmys Schedule Changes Due to NFL, MTV

The 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will still air on Sept. 20, a date set months ago and then recently changed, reported DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com.

CBS and the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences had changed the date from Sept. 20 to Sept. 13 after the NFL announced a football doubleheader for that day and night. In addition, NBC scheduled a broadcast of the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys game for the same time as the Emmys.

But after the awards show was rescheduled, CBS discovered that the MTV Video Music Awards were already locked in for Sept. 13, and had venue and sponsorship agreements in place. A CBS exec said that “It’s best for the industry and the audience that these events not compete against each other.”
