The long-awaited courtroom showdown between Chris Brown and Rihanna was avoided today as Brown reached a plea agreement that spares him jail time.

According to E!Online, “the 20-year-old singer pleaded guilty to felony assault and was put on five years’ probation and ordered to enroll in a anti-domestic violence program. He must perform 180 days of community and must have all his travel vetted by a probation office,” the article read.

Brown was also ordered to stay at least 50 yards away from Rihanna – except at industry events, when it’s 10 yards.

Brown had been charged with two felony counts – assault and making criminal threats – which the judge kept in mind during the sentencing.

“I want Mr. Brown to be treated the same as any other defendant who would come into this court. That means something like Caltrans [trash pickup] or graffiti removal, and a two-week domestic violence program,” said L.A. Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg.
