Concert Promoter Faces Challenges in Wake of Jackson’s Death

AEG, the concert promoter for Michael Jackson’s planned summer tour, faces an uncertain future now that it’s star performer has died.

All 50 London concert dates sold out shortly after they went on sale a few months ago. And despite some setbacks, Jackson’s return to the stage was set to begin July 13.

According to reports, AEG didn’t have insurance for all the dates–meaning, they are liable for all the costs involved.  The BBC says the company will make an announcement today regarding ticket refunds.

Many tweeters are concerned about how the refunds will be handled:

eddypublic @aeglive Got 6 tickets for 2 households. AEG Live cancelled 2 tickets: “4 ticket limit”. Now two girls are sadly disappointed. Nice job AEG!

  7. Monique Savin
savinwebeditor Should AEG offer a tribute show for MJ’s fans? Have access to top talent, would offset losses, help fans celebrate, proceeds to MJ fdn. Y/N?
  8. Craig Kwasniewski
CTKwasniewski Might be a stretch but AEG owns almost 50% of the Lakers, will the $$ they lost on the Jackson Tour affect the Lakers re-signing their FA’s?
  9. Eric Cavallari
EricCavallari Concert promoter AEG Live has to refund $85 million in ticket sales…
  10. Jose Garcia
JoGarcia007 Looks like AEG may be screwed. They may be part of a long list of creditors in court seeking to get a part of MJ.
