Sci Fi Changes to SyFy

The change is official.  The 17-year-old Sci Fi Channel took on its new name and image on Tuesday, rebranding itself as SyFy. The new title comes with a new tagline (”Imagine Greater”), a new site and the launch of a new series, “Warehouse 13.”

The network unveiled the SyFy plans in March, citing a need to expand viewers’ ideas of the channel, according to TVGuide.com. There are no plans, however, to change the main programming of the channel. The network will still feature popular favorites such as “Battlestar Galactica” and “Ghost Hunters.”

Twitterers say they are feeling a little confused about the name change:

zwichenzug @MarkDilley Speaking as a geek, I am offended by the change. SyFy. Jesus.

  3. Andy Phifer
AndyPhifer So far, I’m down with Warehouse 13. Fun show. Totally Sci-Fi, making my fears about SyFy go down a little.

  • I like Warehouse 13 okay, but I get the feeling that the re-branding is jus t the beginning of the end. From what I've heard, they want to put a cooking show on the channel.

new name is bad. as in stinks.sci fi is what was goog about the channel. plus all the great shows. SyFy seems like a cheap way of trying to get attention. Its like when they changed WCBS music format.to all types of music. it didn't work. They went back to oldies.People were happy. If you want more viewers you have to really use your God given brains. Great programs like you already do. Not micky mouse changes.
