According to MTV News, several Republicans in the House of Representatives as well as Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat, disagree with the proposal known as Resolution 600.

During Jackson’s memorial service, Democratic Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas announced Resolution 600, which would honor the “King of Pop” for his humanitarian efforts and legendary life.

In a press conference this week, Pelosi rejected the idea, stating, “I don’t think it’s necessary.”

She also said that there is plenty of “opportunity on the floor of the House to express their sympathy or their praise any time they wish.”  Pelosi said the resolution would open up Jackson’s life to “contrary views that are not necessary at this time to be expressed in association with a resolution whose purpose is quite different”– seemingly referring to allegations of child molestation and drug abuse by the pop star.

Lee has said the resolution would be a “symbolic gesture from lawmakers with no political or legal implications.”

Although there are mixed feelings in the Twitterverse about Pelosi’s decision, it seems most Twitterers agree with her:
