Ashlee Simpson Not Making MJ Album

EW.com has set the record straight. Last week the New York Post’s Page Six reported that Ashlee Simpson is going to start working on concept ideas for a Michael Jackson cover album, supposedly something her father, Joe Simpson, had been talking about.  Turns out, no such plans exist.

Simpson’s publicist Rhett Usry told EW the story was false.  “The [rumors] are completely not true…Honestly I don’t know where they’re from. This completely fabricated story is very disrespectful to Michael Jackson at a time like this, regardless of whose name you’re putting it to. Furthermore, she’s in the middle of shooting Melrose Place,” Usry said.

Simpson also posted on her Twitter account, “Haha jeez. I loved mj enough 2 never to in my wildest dreams think of doing a tribute album. R.I.P. A legend. Enough with the goofy stories!”

Tweeters reflected outrage at the idea, even though it won’t happen:
