“Big Brother” Buys “Real World”

According to Reuters, the Dutch billionaire producer behind the successful global “Big Brother” format has purchased Bunim/Murray Productions company, which started the MTV “Real World” franchise.

Sources say the deal, which consisted of John de Mol’s Talpa Media acquiring Bunim/Murray, could cost between 50 to 70 million dollars.

News of the buy spread through the Twitterverse:

While the sticker price seems steep, some argue it’s a steal. de Mol will now own Bunim/Murray shows like “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” on E! and Lifetime’s new additions of “Project Runway” and “Models on the Runway.”
