Disney Purchases Marvel Comics For $4 Billion

Mickey Mouse and Spider-Man may not be fighting crime together anytime soon, but the possibility isn’t as far-fetched as it onced sounded, as news broke this morning that Disney is buying Marvel Entertainment, according to NPR.org.

Disney is paying $4 billion to acquire the company and its characters, which range from Spider-Man to Captain America to the X-Men.

Though it is uncertain what this move will mean for comic book lovers, some Twitter users reacted with enthusiasm, others with frustration:

  1. Sara Lima
Batgirlbabs Disney buying @Marvel is great news. Jasmine can finally leave Aladdin and hook up with Gambit. I’m stoked.
  2. Marc Telesha
mtelesha Disney has bought Marvel? OK so now they have to mix Mickey Mouse in with Spiderman and Iron Man? This deal could ruin the Marvel Universe.
  3. aceattorney
aceattorney What the? No folks, Disney will not kill mature content in Marvel books. Can’t wait to see Marvel at Disneyland!
  4. Brian Lynch
BrianLynch Disney’s first change for Marvel: When Bruce Banner gets angry, less hulking out, more breaking into song.
  5. GeneGonzales
genegonzales I’m not that optimistic about Disney buying Marvel. Good for Disney, might not be for fans. Wait and see I suppose.
  6. Victor Sachar
victorsachar Wow, just realized, this deal also brings Marvel and Pixar together too. That could be pretty good.
  7. Aubrey Harrison
lilyoftheearth I don’t know how I feel about Disney buying Marvel… But if I could get an Xmen ride at disneyland I wouldn’t complain…
  8. Caroline
madmarvelgirl Thinking positive: Disney acquisition could mean a) Pixar-style Marvel adaptations and b) Marvel actually trying to market to females.
  9. Nancy Brauer
tenaciousN @g14productions I’m concerned that another layer of bureaucracy will water down Marvel characters. Or worse, Disney-fy them. *shudder*
  10. maria c.
mcortell marvel might be part of the disney family now but i still don’t think wolverine and mickey will be getting along at the dinner table.
  11. mazyar hedayat
practicehacker @Zee Disney acquires Marvel? The end of days is upon us. That’s almost as depressing as Facebook buying Friendfeed. Is there nothing left?
  12. Joseph Harrison
jlharrison Wow. Disney is buying Marvel for $4 Billion. Not sure if that is exciting or scary, or both. Should be interesting if nothing else!

  14. YourL8NiteTECHNICian
LateNiteAlumnus It’s depressing to see Disney buy out Marvel. They’ll water down everything. What are they going to do, Nemo and Namor team up?
  15. Alicia Bailey

  19. Cynthia Saavedra
CSthePoet @joelmontes i dont think it will be that bad. disney knows their stuff and it would be dumb of them to change what the marvel audience love
  20. John Barnes
JohnBarnesUK I note from my Italian hotel room that Disney are to take over Marvel Entertainment. That’s bad news for an old comic book geek like me.
