According to reports from EW.com, news anchor Diane Sawyer will be leaving her much-coveted post as early morning co-host on ABC’s “Good Morning America” to take on a new role at the same channel as host of ABC’s “World News Tonight.” The shift will occur in January 2010 when current host (and Sawyer’s previous “GMA” co-anchor) Charles Gibson will retire.

Sawyer will be up against Katie Couric’s “CBS Evening News,” and it appears that ABC is trying to rally the network’s ratings in the nightly news line-up  by casting the well-liked Sawyer as their new anchor.
