This fall’s “Grey’s Anatomy” is already shaping up to be a lonely season: T.R. Knight won’t be returning, Ellen Pompeo is going on maternity leave and now EW.com is reporting that Katherine Heigl has been granted a leave of absence for at least five episodes.

According to the report, ABC gave the OK for Heigl to shoot the Greg Berlanti-directed romantic comedy “Life as We Know It.”
