Former members of the band Nirvana released an official statement yesterday related to the use of a Kurt Cobain avatar, according to EW.com. The avatar is part of the new video game “Guitar Hero 5,” in which the late rock icon can be used to play any song on the game. Cobain’s ex-band mates say they are “very disappointed” that Cobain’s likeness can be used to perform songs other than his own.

The response comes after Courtney Love, Cobain’s widow, threatened to sue Activision, the maker of the game.  While Activision says Love signed a written agreement to use Cobain’s likeness, Love has posted a series of angry messages on her Twitter account. She has referred to the use of the Cobain avatar as “vile” and “necrophilia,” according to EW.com.

Twitter users had a variety of responses to the grunge icon’s video game cameo:
