“Jay Leno Show” Debuts to Huge Audience

If you were worried about Jay Leno post-“Tonight Show,” fear not. It appears as thought the late night-comic-turned-primetime-host will be okay. According to a report from the New York Times, NBC’s “The Jay Leno Show” debuted to an audience of 18 million people.

So what do those numbers mean? Consider that NBC showed two NFL games last week that were watched by more than 20 million. Last season’s top dramas, ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Desperate Housewives,” drew 16.5 million and 14 million viewers for their finales.

Leno’s enormous appeal should almost guarantee that his primetime experiment will be a success.

Twitter users weren’t so enthusiastic about the show, however,  with many citing that it was the same as the old “Tonight Show,” which could indicate that the show’s high ratings were simply a result of public curiosity.
