“Hairspray” director Adam Shankman has signed on to direct the movie adaptation of Chris D’Arienzo’s muscial “Rock of Ages,” reports Variety.

The musical follows the struggles of a couple who meet at a club called “Rock of Ages” and fall in love. It features many ’80s rock anthems by artists such as Bon Jovi, Twisted Sister and Journey.

Shankman described the upcoming New Line Cinema production as “‘Mamma Mia!’ for dudes.”

Fans of the musical tweeted the news with excitement while a few others lamented the transition to the big screen:
