Chris Brown, Rihanna Interviews Air on Same Night to Mixed Reactions

Musicians and exes Chris Brown and Rihanna each appeared in their own television interviews Friday night, where they discussed their tumultuous relationship–including Brown’s assault on the singer in February.

Rihanna’s interview with “Good Morning America” anchor Diane Sawyer aired in part on “GMA” during the week before airing in full on 20/20 Friday night.  In the interview, which was announced before Brown’s, Rihanna recounted the night of the Grammys when Brown physically assaulted her.  According to reports from EW.com, Rihanna said in the interview, “All I kept thinking the whole time: When is it going to stop? When is it going to stop?…I was bleeding. I was swollen in my face.”  She added that questions of whether she provoked Brown stem from “ignorance.”

In his interview with MTV, Brown said he takes responsibility for what happened that night.  An MTV News article quotes him as saying “I think you’d be in denial and be totally naive not to…and not being able to realize and own up to the fact of your own wrongs. I mean, me, I’ve come to terms with it and I’m working on it.”  Brown previously spoke out on Larry King Live, shortly after he was sentenced to 5-years probation after accepting a plea deal.

Brown also released a statement expressing disappointment that Rihanna went into such vivid details about the night of the attack.  “While I respect Rihanna’s right to discuss the specific events of February 8, I maintain my position that all of the details should remain a private matter between us,” the statement read in part.

Both seem to agree on a few things: they were in love but what took place was inexcusable and now, as they each move on with their lives, they won’t forget what happened but intend to learn from it.  They also had well wishes for each other’s future.  Rihanna’s new album comes out Nov. 23 and Brown is about to embark on a “fan appreciation” tour.

Over the course of the night, both “Rihanna” and “Chris Brown” were Trending Topics on Twitter.  Tweeps were expressing a variety of opinions, including disinterest:
